Last evening, emerging from the All Party Meeting (APM) of opposition parties, Ms Chong-Aruldoss confirmed that she will be running again in Mountbatten as the candidate for the Singapore People’s Party. She also stated that, contrary to earlier rumours that the National Solidarity Party (NSP) would contest in Mountbatten, it would be a straight fight between her and the PAP’s candidate.

Ms Chong-Aruldoss also took the opportunity, while fielding questions from the press, to reveal that she is set to unveil a 5-Year, 5-Point plan for Mountbatten SMC in due time.

I have a 5-Year, 5-Point plan for Mountbatten which I am looking forward to share with everyone, especially the residents of Mountbatten. This plan will tell them how I can benefit them by making their lives richer and better.

When asked what were issues that concerned her the most, she replied:

The bare minimum that one can expect from an MP is for them to discharge their municipal duties effectively. Professional and competent Town Council Management is a top piority for me and I am confident that, under the mentorship of Mr Chiam See Tong – who ran Potong Pasir Town Council smoothly for 27 years -, that I will be able to do the same.

Beyond that, an MP is also expected to represent the concerns of their residents in Parliament without fear. With years of experience in the legal field behind me, I believe that I am well equipped for the task ahead and I will be able to represent the voices of Mountbatten in Parliament well.

When pressed for details, she said more details will be known when she releases her plans for the constituency.

Ms Chong-Aruldoss was accompanied by her husband, James Aruldoss, and 2 of her 4 children, last night.

In a Facebook post on her page after the night’s events, she spoke of how important her family’s support is to her.

Long evening at the meeting of the parties at Jalan Besar. Walked out to a mediascrum and burst of camera bulbs. But amidst the excitement, found an oasis of calm and comfort in the people who mean the most to me. Love my family.

TOC understands that Ms Chong-Aruldoss will be conducting a routine house-to-house visit at Dakota Cresent in the morning at 8.30am.
