SINGAPORE: A 57-year-old woman was taken to hospital after a bottle was allegedly thrown at an SMRT double-decker bus travelling along Orchard Road on Saturday evening (5 July), leaving a fist-sized hole in one of its windows.

The incident occurred at around 6:45pm, Lianhe Zaobao reported.

According to a post by the user "是cc啊" on Xiaohongshu, the bus was travelling past The Heeren shopping mall when the object struck.

A hole suddenly appeared in the glass of an upper-deck window, which was visibly cracked.

Vincent Gay, Deputy Managing Director of SMRT Buses, confirmed that the bus — operating on service 190 — had been hit by a bottle allegedly thrown by a member of the public.

The bus driver stopped the vehicle to ensure the safety of the passengers.

All commuters were later transferred to another bus to continue their journey.

"We are cooperating with the police in their investigations," Gay said.

In response to media queries, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it received a call for assistance at around 6:45pm.

The injured passenger, a 57-year-old woman, was conscious when conveyed to Raffles Hospital for treatment.

Police investigations are ongoing.
