SINGAPORE: A 30-year-old operationally ready national serviceman died after collapsing outside Maju Camp on 30 June 2025.
He had completed a National Service Fitness Improvement Training (NS FIT) session from 6.50pm to 8pm.
According to the Ministry of Defence (Mindef), he reported feeling well and was cleared to leave.
He booked out at 8.11pm. Shortly after, a passer-by saw him collapse and called for help.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted at 8.16pm and dispatched an ambulance.
It arrived at 8.25pm. On-site resuscitation was performed and continued enroute to National University Hospital.
Despite emergency intervention, he was pronounced dead at 9.54pm after arriving around 9pm.
Mindef stated that, as a precaution, all NS FIT sessions are suspended until 4 July 2025.
This pause is to review safety protocols and reinforce safety awareness among servicemen.
The NS FIT programme, launched in 2021, replaced the previous IPT and RT schemes.
Mindef confirmed that the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) is supporting the family.
Further investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of death.
