GE2025: PAP’s Ng Chee Meng narrowly defeats WP’s Andre Low in Jalan Kayu SMC with 51.47%

Jalan Kayu SMC was called on 3 May 2025 for the PAP’s Ng Chee Meng, who won 51.47% of the vote, edging out WP’s Andre Low (48.53%). Of 27,420 valid votes, Ng secured 14,113 to Low’s 13,307. Ng, 56, made his political return after losing Sengkang GRC in 2020.

SINGAPORE: On 3 May 2025, Jalan Kayu SMC was called for the People’s Action Party’s Ng Chee Meng, who secured 51.47% of the vote, narrowly defeating the Workers’ Party’s Andre Low, who garnered 48.53%

Ng, 56, made his political comeback in a tightly fought race, earning 14,113 votes to Low’s 13,307 from 27,420 valid votes.

Low, 33, contesting his first election, may qualify as a Non-Constituency MP if ranked among the best-performing opposition candidates.

Ng, a former Chief of Defence Force, entered politics in 2015 as part of the PAP team in Pasir Ris–Punggol GRC.

He served as Minister for Education (Schools) and Second Minister for Transport, and became NTUC Secretary-General in 2018.

Despite losing Sengkang GRC in 2020, Ng retained his role as Labour chief.

Jalan Kayu SMC, with 29,565 registered voters, was newly formed after the latest electoral boundaries review.
