SINGAPORE: A man was arrested on 17 April following a violent and chaotic incident in Hougang, which left one person injured and three police officers hurt. The 22-year-old suspect allegedly slashed a man, vandalised a Mercedes-Benz, and attacked police officers with a wooden plank embedded with nails, according to a report by Lianhe Zaobao. Eyewitnesses said the man was running around completely naked during the incident, shocking passers-by in broad daylight. The incident reportedly occurred at around 1.10pm at the open-air car park of Block 677 Hougang Avenue 8, near Xinmin Primary School. When Lianhe Zaobao reporters arrived about an hour later, the area was cordoned off. Bloodstains and a pair of slippers were spotted on the ground. A domestic helper who witnessed the attack said the naked man aggressively confronted a father and his young son. During the altercation, the father was stabbed while trying to protect his child. Another man from a nearby coffee shop reportedly attempted to intervene using a broom to stop the assailant.

Car Damaged in Apparent Rampage

In a separate act of destruction, a 67-year-old eyewitness reported seeing the suspect charge at a Mercedes-Benz while brandishing a knife and shouting incoherently. The man allegedly climbed onto the car, jumped on its roof, and stomped on the windscreen, causing it to shatter before fleeing the scene. A coffee shop employee described the suspect as tall and lanky, and said he appeared to be mentally unstable.

Officers Injured During Arrest

When police officers attempted to apprehend the suspect, he allegedly resisted and swung a nail-studded wooden plank at them, injuring three officers. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed that the 30-year-old stabbing victim was taken to Sengkang General Hospital. The suspect has since been taken into custody and is under investigation for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon, and for intentionally injuring public servants during the execution of their duties. Police investigations are ongoing.
