Abdul Muhaimin signals intent to run in Sengkang GRC, pledges to address lift issues in Compassvale
Potential WP candidate Abdul Muhaimin Abdul Malik has assured Compassvale residents of his commitment to addressing lift issues in the estate, indicating his likely candidacy for the Sengkang GRC seat vacated by Raeesah Khan.

A senior property manager from Aljunied-Hougang Town Council (AHTC), Abdul Muhaimin Abdul Malik, has emerged as a likely candidate for the Workers’ Party (WP) in Sengkang Group Representation Constituency (GRC), signalling his commitment to residents through promises to resolve long-standing lift issues in the Compassvale division.
In an Instagram post on 1 April 2025, Abdul Muhaimin pledged to work closely with the current WP Members of Parliament (MPs) in Sengkang to uncover and resolve the root causes of these lift problems.
In the post, captioned with hashtags such as #Compassvale and #SengkangGRC, he emphasised the critical role of lifts, especially for the elderly.
He cited nearly a decade of experience managing lift maintenance at a town council since August 2015 and said he was committed to maintaining safety and reliability in lift operations.
He wrote, “Asking the right questions, listening closely, and pushing for lasting fixes — that’s how we lift Sengkang GRC up, together.”

Though the WP has not officially confirmed his candidacy, his visible involvement in party activities and growing social media presence suggest an imminent announcement. A Facebook page branding him as a politician appeared on the same day as his Instagram post, reinforcing public speculation.
According to the Elections Department’s announcement on 27 March 2025, Sengkang GRC must include at least one Malay candidate in the upcoming General Election. Abdul Muhaimin’s profile fits this requirement, and his active presence at events with the Sengkang MPs since 2023 adds weight to expectations of his nomination.
He has been seen attending walkabouts and festive events such as Hari Raya Puasa celebrations, mass break-fast gatherings, and a townhall meeting on 29 March 2025. His appearances were often alongside MPs He Ting Ru, Jamus Lim, and Louis Chua, including a photograph on 8 March shared by WP chief Pritam Singh, captioned “Team Sengkang GRC”.
Abdul Muhaimin has longstanding ties to the Compassvale ward, having assisted at monthly Meet-the-People Sessions under the guidance of Aljunied GRC MP Faisal Manap.
Faisal, who is WP’s vice-chair, has been mentoring the Sengkang team since the resignation of Raeesah Khan in December 2021.
After Raeesah Khan admitted to lying to Parliament, her responsibilities in Compassvale were redistributed among her teammates. The resulting vacancy has remained a focal point for party supporters and residents alike.
Professionally, Abdul Muhaimin brings technical qualifications and relevant expertise.
A mechanical engineering graduate from Nanyang Technological University in 2015, he started at the town council as an assistant lift manager and was later given broader responsibilities, including overseeing multiple projects.
Under his tenure, AHTC received top-tier ratings from the Government for estate cleanliness, lift performance, maintenance, and service and conservancy charges (S&CC) arrears management for financial years 2021 to 2023.
To earn top marks for lift performance, town councils must maintain fewer than two faults per 10 lifts per month, and limit downtime to less than one hour per lift monthly — standards that AHTC consistently met.
Similarly, Sengkang Town Council (SKTC) also achieved top scores in multiple categories for 2021 and 2022.
Though it was initially rated lower in S&CC arrears management, that metric improved the following year, marking the first time all town councils in Singapore received top marks since assessments began in 2010.
SKTC transitioned to direct management of all four divisions — Anchorvale, Buangkok, Compassvale, and Rivervale — by 1 February 2023, after no Managing Agent (MA) bids were received for a tender issued on 29 April 2022.
This move mirrored AHTC’s earlier shift to direct management in 2015.
SKTC has stated that existing contractors would continue providing services, and operations would not be disrupted. It has also hired experienced personnel from former managing agents to ensure continuity.
The shift followed the termination of EM Services’ contract on 31 January 2023 and was foreshadowed by the earlier direct management of Anchorvale beginning November 2021. The Town Council has since expressed confidence in maintaining high service standards.
The experience of AHTC and SKTC in transitioning to direct management without third-party agents reflects broader shifts in WP-run councils’ administrative strategies, often prompted by the withdrawal of service providers following electoral wins.
These management models have roots in AHPETC’s (Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol East Town Council) transition in 2011, which faced legal challenges that concluded last year with WP councillors largely cleared of wrongdoing.
If confirmed as a WP candidate, Abdul Muhaimin’s blend of technical knowledge, operational experience, and ground engagement could bolster the party’s presence in Sengkang, particularly in the previously vacated Compassvale division.
