Holland & Barrett exits Singapore, closing all 12 outlets amid financial troubles
British health and wellness retailer Holland & Barrett has closed all 12 of its Singapore outlets, marking its exit after nearly two decades. The closure, officially announced on 10 March, follows a statutory declaration by its local operator, MA Supplements, citing financial difficulties.

British health and wellness retailer Holland & Barrett has shut down all 10 of its outlets in Singapore, marking its departure after nearly two decades. The closure was officially announced on its Instagram page on 10 March 2025, though outlets had reportedly begun shutting down as early as 6 March.
The 10 affected stores were located at 313@somerset, AMK Hub, Bedok Mall, City Square Mall, Isetan Scotts, Jurong Point, Nex, Parkway Parade, Takashimaya, and The Clementi Mall.
When The Straits Times visited five outlets on 6 March—including those at Takashimaya Shopping Centre, 313@somerset, Isetan Scotts, Suntec City, and Nex—store shelves were either emptied, or staff were seen packing up.
The Nex outlet was boarded up by 7 March. A sign at the AMK Hub branch redirected customers to Holland & Barrett’s website for updates.
The sudden closure has left both employees and customers in the dark. A Facebook user, who identified herself as a Holland & Barrett employee, described the situation as "a nightmare," stating that workers were unprepared for the shutdown.
She had been with the company for 12 years.
Customers also expressed frustration, particularly over unredeemed memberships and vouchers. One member, who wished to remain anonymous,
Another Facebook user, claiming to be a Holland & Barrett member, had earlier warned others on Complaint Singapore to use their vouchers before the final closures, writing, "My entire $300 till July will be wasted since 70% of the items do not allow members to use additional vouchers for payments."
He told The Straits Times that he had renewed his membership for S$88 and received two complimentary vouchers worth S$150 each, valid until July. He criticised the company for allowing membership renewals for 2025 despite its impending closure.
The retailer’s local franchisee, MA Supplements, a subsidiary of Jay Gee Enterprises, is facing financial difficulties.
An announcement in the Singapore Government’s e-Gazette on 7 March stated that the directors of MA Supplements had made a statutory declaration on 4 March of their inability to continue operations due to liabilities.
This marks the initial step in the liquidation process, with creditor meetings scheduled for 18 March.
Holland & Barrett was founded in 1870 and originally started as a grocery store before shifting focus to health foods and supplements. According to its website, it operates 1,368 stores across 16 countries.
