SINGAPORE: A large fire has engulfed a warehouse at 11 Kranji Crescent, sending thick, dark smoke into the sky.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to the incident at around 10.30am on 19 February and has since launched an extensive firefighting operation.

The warehouse is occupied by Wah and Hua, a recycling and waste management company.

According to SCDF, the fire involved waste materials stored within the facility, which measures approximately 50m by 50m.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the blaze “well alight.”

SCDF has deployed six water jets and an unmanned firefighting machine to combat the fire.

The operation is expected to be prolonged, and authorities have advised the public to avoid the area due to increasing traffic congestion.

One person from the affected warehouse has been taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation and burn injuries.

SCDF deploys unmanned firefighting technology as structure deemed unstable

Alex Yam, Member of Parliament for Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC, shared a video of the fire on social media, advising residents to stay away from the area.

He also cautioned that smoke from the fire is drifting southeast and urged residents to close their windows if it moves towards northern residential areas.

As of 3.54pm, SCDF updated that the fire is now under control, but the structure of the premises is unstable.

To minimise risks to responders, SCDF has deployed additional unmanned firefighting technologies, including four unmanned firefighting machines and an unmanned aerial vehicle.

Videos and photos of the fire have been widely shared on social media, with eyewitnesses expressing concerns over the scale of the incident.

According to state media The Straits Times, this is the third reported fire at the address since 2018. Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
