MP Zhulkarnain seeks assurance on enhanced safety at places of worship after knife attack
In a Parliament session, MP Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim raised concern about the safety of places of worship following the recent knife attack at St. Joseph’s Church. In response, Minister K Shanmugam outlined the government’s efforts to enhance security, including the Crisis Preparedness for Religious Organisations programme and various safety measures.

SINGAPORE: In response to concerns raised following a recent knife attack at St. Joseph’s Church, Minister for Home Affairs K Shanmugam outlined government efforts to enhance security and preparedness at places of worship. In a written reply to Parliament on 7 January, Minister Shanmugam highlighted the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth's (MCCY) Crisis Preparedness for Religious Organisations (CPRO) programme. The statement came in response to a query from People's Action Party (PAP) Member of Parliament, Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim, regarding enhanced safety measures following a recent knife attack at a place of worship. Zhulkarnain asked whether increased awareness, training, and crisis response measures were being implemented to safeguard staff and volunteers across all places of worship in such emergency situations.
