SINGAPORE: Two people have died after a fire broke out in a Hougang flat on Thursday (9 January), according to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
The victims were found in a bedroom as SCDF personnel battled the blaze.
They were pronounced dead at the scene.
The SCDF reported that it was alerted to the fire at around 12.40pm and deployed firefighters to Block 971, Hougang Street 91.
Two water jets were used at the base of the block during the firefighting efforts.
“The fire involved a unit on the third floor. Firefighters forced entry into the unit but faced difficulties due to excessive items inside,” the SCDF said in a Facebook post at approximately 4.30pm.
“During the operation, firefighters discovered two individuals inside a bedroom. Both were pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic.”
As a precaution, around 30 residents from the affected block were evacuated by the police and SCDF officers.
