Fire in Tampines HDB block leads to evacuation of 50 residents
A fire broke out in a 13th-floor HDB unit at Block 889A Tampines Street 81 on 9 December, prompting the evacuation of 50 residents. SCDF extinguished the fire involving bedroom contents with a water jet. Two residents declined hospitalisation after being checked for smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
SINGAPORE: About 50 residents were evacuated from Block 889A Tampines Street 81 after a fire broke out in a 13th-floor unit on the morning of 9 December.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) responded to the emergency at approximately 6.40am.
In a Facebook post on 9 December, SCDF reported that thick black smoke was seen billowing from the affected unit when officers arrived at the scene.
Videos circulating online showed smoke pouring out of a unit near the corridor.

Firefighters could be seen extinguishing the flames, accompanied by the sound of sirens in the background.
The fire involved the contents of a bedroom and was extinguished using a water jet, SCDF confirmed.
Two residents of the affected unit had already evacuated before SCDF’s arrival.
Paramedics on-site assessed the pair for smoke inhalation, but they declined to be taken to the hospital.
As a precaution, about 50 residents from nearby units were evacuated by SCDF and police officers.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
