The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has suspended operations at Hup Huat Noodles Pte Ltd, citing severe food safety violations. The suspension, effective from 4 December 2024, followed an inspection at the company’s temporary premises at 10 Chin Bee Drive, #05-00, Singapore 619861.

Hup Huat, a noodle manufacturer established in 1930, was previously located at 8 Wan Lee Road.

The company is currently operating from a temporary site housed under another food factory while its new building is under construction.

On its Facebook page, Hup Huat celebrated the groundbreaking of its new facility on 4 March 2024, noting that the building is expected to be completed by mid-2025.

During the inspection, SFA found significant lapses, including a severe infestation of live cockroaches and poor maintenance of the premises. Issues included dirty floors and food processing equipment, which were deemed a threat to public health.

In response, SFA has directed Hup Huat to address these deficiencies and implement necessary measures to improve its food safety and hygiene standards. The suspension will remain in effect until the company demonstrates full compliance with SFA’s requirements.

The SFA emphasised that food safety is a shared responsibility, involving regulators, industry players, and consumers. While SFA ensures enforcement and vigilance, food operators must maintain clean premises and ensure that staff are adequately trained in food safety management.

Operators failing to comply with food safety regulations face fines of up to S$5,000 per offence. The SFA has urged the public to report food establishments engaging in unsafe practices via its online feedback form at www.sfa.gov.sg/feedback.

Hup Huat’s temporary facility will remain closed until it passes further inspections and meets the necessary standards to ensure public safety.
