JOHOR, MALAYSIA: Malaysian authorities have arrested a 22-year-old Chinese national in Kuantan, Pahang, for alleged kidnapping and other offences involving a 15-year-old girl.
Johor police chief Commissioner M. Kumar, in a media release issued on Wednesday (27 November), confirmed that the missing girl, a 15-year-old Chinese national, was found during a raid conducted in Kuantan, Pahang, on Tuesday.
Commissioner Kumar revealed that the girl had entered Malaysia via Singapore’s Woodlands Checkpoint on 24 November.
The girl’s father, a 48-year-old Chinese national, lodged police reports after his daughter failed to attend school in Singapore on 25 November.
The Singapore Police Force received a missing persons report regarding the girl at around 2:15 pm on 25 November.
Preliminary investigations suggested that she had left Singapore unaccompanied and voluntarily before the report was filed.
Media reports indicated that the father alerted Johor police on 26 November, which enabled them to locate and raid the premises in Kuantan later the same day.
During the operation, a 22-year-old man was arrested, and various items, including mobile phones and clothes, were confiscated.
Commissioner Kumar stated that the suspect is under investigation for kidnapping, sexual assault of a child, and child trafficking.
He also confirmed that Malaysian authorities are examining the motive behind the incident and urged the public to avoid speculation, asking them to provide any relevant information to the police.
The girl is scheduled for a medical check-up, and the suspect has been remanded for seven days starting 27 November, with his detention extended until 2 December.
The case is being investigated under three key provisions:
- Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for physical sexual assault,
- Section 48(2) of the Child Act 2001 for concealing a child, and
- Section 361 of the Penal Code for kidnapping from lawful guardianship
