SBS Transit driver dies in Kaki Bukit crash; Five passengers hospitalised
A 58-year-old SBS Transit bus driver died after a self-skidding accident in Kaki Bukit on 21 November 2024. Five male passengers, aged 26 to 38, were injured. SBS Transit extended condolences to the driver’s family and assured care for the injured. Investigations into the crash are ongoing.
SINGAPORE: A tragic accident in Kaki Bukit on Thursday (21 Nov) night claimed the life of an SBS Transit bus driver, 58, and injured five passengers.
The police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) were alerted to the crash around 11pm at the junction of Kaki Bukit Avenue 2 and Kaki Bukit Road 1, according to 8World News.
The bus, believed to have self-skidded, collided head-on with a tree.
A Facebook post by Singapore roads accident.com showed a smashed windshield partially dislodged from its frame.
The driver was unconscious when taken to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Five male passengers, aged 26 to 38, were also hospitalised with injuries.
Mrs Grace Wu, spokesperson for SBS Transit, confirmed that the accident involved a bus on service 137.
“We are deeply saddened by his passing as he was a very good and helpful bus captain,” said Mrs Wu.
“We have extended our deepest condolences to his family and are providing them with our fullest support.”
SBS Transit has prioritised the well-being of the injured passengers, with staff at the hospital offering assistance and ongoing support.
“We wish them a complete and speedy recovery,” she added.
The transport operator is assisting police in their investigations into the incident.
