SINGAPORE: A 26-year-old woman was hit by a taxi while jaywalking near Dhoby Ghaut MRT station at around 3:15 am on Wednesday (13 Nov).

The incident occurred at the intersection of Orchard Road and Handy Road, where the woman was crossing Bras Basah Road despite the pedestrian light being red and the traffic light green for the taxi.

The video footage shows her scrolling on her phone as she walked across the zebra crossing, seemingly unaware of the oncoming vehicle.

The taxi approached the intersection and could not stop in time to avoid a collision.

The impact knocked the woman several meters forward, and she landed heavily in front of the vehicle.

The driver, visibly shocked, exited the taxi to check on her, while the woman, shaken, attempted to sit up after the incident.

Singapore Police Force (SPF) and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed the woman was conscious when transported to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

A 67-year-old male taxi driver is currently assisting with investigations, which are ongoing.
