SINGAPORE — The Workers’ Party issued a statement on Monday concerning a widely circulated video on private messaging, featuring two senior party members.

The Party mentioned that it is currently investigating the matter and will comment once all the facts are gathered.

“The Party also expects all its members to fully own and account for their behavior,” stated WP in its press release.

The 15-second video being circulated displays two individuals who seem to be Mr Leon Perera and Ms Nicole Seah, both senior party members, who are married, holding hands in what appears to be a public setting in a restaurant.

The video seems to be recorded from a fixed position directed at the two senior party members.

Mr Perera is currently a Member of Parliament for Aljunied GRC and a member of the WP Central Executive Committee, and Ms Seah is the President of the Workers’ Party Youth Wing, who also ran as a candidate in the General Election 2020 at East Coast GRC.

How do you take the PAP out of the PAP man?

Senior Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam’s resignation from the party and government positions to run for the presidential election may seem like a break from the People’s Action Party (PAP). But it’s not that simple, says Augustine Low. Mr Tharman has been a dedicated PAP member for decades, and his ties to the party cannot be severed so easily. The PAP has a vested interest in ensuring that the elected president is always affiliated with the party. Mr Tharman’s resignation and candidacy are likely to be part of a scripted game orchestrated by the PAP, similar to the case of Mdm Halimah Yacob.
