MALAYSIA — Nurul Izzah Anwar, the daughter of Malaysia 10th Prime Minister shared the sad news of the miscarriage of her fourth child in a recent Facebook post.

Yesterday (24 January) night, Ms Nurul Izzah confirmed the unfortunate event in her official Facebook page.

Ms Nurul can be seen in the photo being comforted by her parents, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and former deputy prime minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

“This would probably be the first time we have hugged since 19 November,” wrote Ms Nuri who is also former Member of Parliament for Permatang Pauh, referring to the date of the 15th General Election.

Ms Nurul said since GE15 last year she had gone through a lot with her family together, from campaigning in the general election, getting COVID-19 for the second time, learning that she was pregnant, and later being busy with her new duties while shuffling between Penang and Putrajaya.

Nevertheless, nothing prepared her for the shock she had when she learnt that she had a miscarriage.

“The little boot is gone. Surely, we belong to Allah and verily to Him do we return.”

Ms Nurul further wrote that she thought about all the women who had to go through the same episodes and experiences, even though their individual paths are different.

She offered her support to those who faced the same loss and reminded them that life goes on.

“So to those of you, well almost all of us who have tasted loss, we can offer our “doas” (prayers), a big virtual hug, and a reminder – that life does go on. ”

“And the splendour of joy and happiness, it lurks in every corner – whether it’s the smiles of Safiyah, Harith, and Yu Zhou – or in the warm embrace of my own papa and mama. Every moment counts,” she said.

Politicians both from PH and BN expressed their condolences

Malaysia politicians both from Pakatan Harapan(PH) and Barisan National(BN), including current Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, deputy finance minister Steven Sim, Communications and Digital Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching, and former transport minister Wee Ka Siong (BN) had commented in Ms Nurul’s Facebook page to express their condolences for her loss.

Nurul Izzah is re-married to Yin Shao Loong in August last year. Mr Yin is senior research associate at Khazanah Research Institute.

Ms Nurul tied the knot with businessman Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar Raja Salim in 2003, and gave birth to their first and second children,  Raja Safiyah and Raja Harith. Ms Nurul officially divorced her former husband in 2015.

Ms Nurul’s third son, Yu Zhou is son of Mr Yin from his previous marriage.

In GE15 last year, Ms Nurul lost her Permatang Pauh seat to PAS (Malaysian Islamic Party) candidate, Muhammad Fawwaz Muhammad Jan. The latter won with a 5,272-vote majority over Ms Nurul.
