SELANGOR, MALAYSIA — Flying fox or ziplining is a popular outdoor activity for many of those seeking thrill and excitement while basking in the glorious sight of mother nature.

But some netizens think that one Malaysian mother has gone too far.

In a viral video on Tik Tok, a mother is shown ziplining without a helmet, soaring thousands of feet above the forest canopy. And to top that off, she was carrying her child one-handed at the same time.

The video triggered a heated debate among netizens. Some praised the mother’s courage in her partaking in the outdoor challenge, arguing that if it was a Caucasian mother doing it, no one would complain about the matter.

While many voiced their concern about the lack of safety, especially since both the mother and toddler were seen without wearing a safety helmet in the video, needless to say, the toddler appears to be fastened to his mother’s chest with no more than a yellow belt around his waist.

The original video appears to have been taken down on Tik Tok.

Hulu Selangor District Police released a statement and confirmed that they had received a public complaint on 13 November and are investigating this matter.

Supt Suffian Abdullah, Hulu Selangor district police chief said that the case was being investigated in accordance with Section 31 (1) of the Children Act 2001 Amendment 2006.

According to the act, those who abuse, neglect, abandon or expose a child in a manner likely to cause the child physical or emotional injury, can be fined not more than RM50,000 or jailed not more than 20 years, or both.
