Resident allegedly causes fire along HDB corridor after performing prayer rituals

A HDB resident who goes by the name Yani Rzk on Facebook took to her Facebook on Saturday night (4 Sep) to detail the aftermath of a fire that took place along the corridor outside her home.
According to Yani, the fire was created by her neighbour earlier that evening after he had burned incense and offerings as part of his prayer rituals.
A video uploaded in her post shows burnt papers and ashes all around the corridor outside of her home.
Yani also shared a picture of her son’s tricycle which was damaged from the fire. The front tyre can be seen partially melted.

In her post, Yani said that her neighbour did not offer her an apology for what had transpired.
She added that he even lied to the authorities when he was questioned about the fire, saying that it was just a small fire.
“Lucky no one is injured but my son keep on saying ‘basikal broken oh noo’ .. never say sorry to me. Still lie to authorities he burn small fire la burn downstair la.”
Yani also lamented the fact that her neighbour is an able-bodied man who is more than capable to head downstairs to perform his prayer rituals.
“Mind you he is very able bodied. Not even limping. So he can go down and do this but nooooo.. Now my house almost got burn.”
What’s more, she claimed that her neighbour has been burning incense along the corridor since 2019.
In fact, under the comments section of her post, Yani noted that he does it every day.
“everyday! Not every year! I tahan only with this uncle dont wanna sound racist. I report him on that 2019 but dont want listen.”
She even shared a screenshot of her Instagram story, dated 27 August 2019, to substantiate her claim.

Yani went on to say that nothing has changed over the years despite multiple warnings been given to her neighbour by the authorities.
“Idk man idk what else to say but if he still not scared of the police scdf all come down warn him.. idk what to say. Yes i report and do what i need check on my kids etc first before taking this video. He still can laugh and all ah now outside my house.”
In a follow-up Facebook post on Sunday morning (5 Sep), she said that she has reported her neighbour to the police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), adding that they “will be taking action”.
