Yip Pin Xiu wins gold in the women’s 100m backstroke S2 final at Tokyo Paralympic

Singapore’s Yip Pin Xiu won gold in the women’s 100m backstroke S2 final at the Tokyo Paralympics on Wednesday (25 Aug).

The double world champion finished in a time of 2:16.61 at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre.

Yip had earlier came in first in the 100m backstroke (S2) at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre as she clocked 2 minutes 14.46 seconds to win her heat.

She faced off with China’s Feng Yazhu who came second in 2 minutes 32.44 seconds, while Japan’s Yamada Miyuki placed third with a time of 2 minutes 34.35 seconds.

Yip won two gold medals at the last edition of the Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, and one at the Beijing Paralympics in 2008.

She also holds the world record in the 50m backstroke S2 and the 100m backstroke S2.
