Singapore’s swimmer Yip Pin Xiu came in first in the 100m backstroke (S2) at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre on Wednesday (25 Aug) as she clocked 2 minutes 14.46 seconds to win her heat.
Yip advances in the final later on Wednesday at around 4.40pm Singapore time, facing off with China’s Feng Yazhu who came second in 2 minutes 32.44 seconds, while Japan’s Yamada Miyuki placed third with a time of 2 minutes 34.35 seconds.
Yip won two gold medals at the last edition of the Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, and one at the Beijing Paralympics in 2008.
She also holds the world record in the 50m backstroke S2 and the 100m backstroke S2.
