For National Day this year, the Workers’ Party (WP) produced a video that features interviews with people from different races, wishing Singaporeans Happy National Day while reflecting on what has been a difficult year for everyone.

The video, entitled “How are you”, was posted on Facebook on Saturday (7 Aug) as part of the party’s National Day greeting.

“As Singapore gears towards a post-pandemic world, we could all do with a pause and a breather. Look around and lend a shoulder to those who need it. Ask them how they are.

“More importantly, ask yourself how you are. We are only as strong as the weakest,” WP remarked.

In the video, WP interviewed several people of different races on the “biggest change” they have had in their lives amid the challenging year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

One person said, “It was also a time where I experienced retrenchment for the first time in my life as well as getting a job immediately. That was a blessing in disguise for myself.”

Another person shared the biggest change for him was “finding a way to make a living in Singapore instead of waiting around for the situation to improve” as he used to work overseas before the pandemic.

“Behind the masks is one thing we all miss the most of our fellow Singaporeans – our smiles. Happy National Day to all Singaporeans,” said WP.

WP’s chief and Leader of the Opposition (LO) Pritam Singh also shared the video on his Facebook page on the same day, noting how this year has led to “many different experiences” for everyone.

“There have been many different experiences, and with different experiences, different stories. Jobs, School, Family and More.

“Here’s to a meaningful National Day to all Singaporeans and friends of Singapore. Whatever life throws at you – keep your friends, family and loved ones close. Always. They are here for you,” he wrote.
