Giant Singapore extends popular weekday storewide discount for senior citizen until end of 2021
As of Monday (2 Aug), Giant Singapore will be extending its popular senior citizen discount of 3 per cent off storewide on all weekdays until 31 December 2021.
The extension comes after the retailer’s recent decision to expand the discount, from once a week on Tuesdays to all weekdays.
In a statement on Friday (30 July), leading pan-Asian retailer Dairy Farm Group noted that this is part of the leading food retailer’s commitment to ensuring customers can shop safely and with confidence that they will enjoy lower prices that last.
The discount is applicable throughout the store’s opening hours to anyone aged 60 and above.
“Our customers are at the heart of everything we do and we are always looking to improve the shopping experience for all our customers as we face these challenging times together,” said Lee Yik Hun, Marketing Director of Southeast Asia Food at Dairy Farm Group.
“It is important to us that we invest in implementing discounts and offers that have real benefit and impact to our customers.”
Reason behind the extension is due to many encouraging feedback from customers
According to Mr Lee, the reason why they have decided to extend the discount until the end of the year is because of the many “encouraging feedback” given by their customers when they first expanded their senior citizen discount from once a week on Tuesdays to every weekday.
He continued, “Over the past few months we have noticed that popular food items among our senior customers include bread and hot beverages. These include products under our Meadows house brand bread and coffee which offer great taste at great value. It’s heartening to know that with the extension of the storewide discount, they can continue to enjoy what they buy the most of, at the best value because it’s the little things that make a Giant difference!
“We will also continue to review popular products our customers are purchasing to inform future decisions on value offerings. We are proud to be part of a community of retailers who remain committed to providing customers with not only the best products at the best prices, but also with a safe environment to shop in.”
Customers can continue to enjoy long-term savings at Giant
This extension is another significant commitment by Giant to be Singapore’s best value retailer by helping customers enjoy long-term savings from reduced prices of everyday essentials, said Dairy Farm Group in its statement.
This is on top of its Lower Prices That Last programme which saw the lowering of prices of hundreds of fresh and grocery items, including customers’ most-purchased products.
According to Dairy Farm Group, families who have shopped at Giant instead of its competitors would have saved up to an average of S$14.40 per basket (or 28 per cent).
This figure is based on a basket of 12 items, purchased by a family of four. Data was collected every Saturday from 12 December 2020 to 6 March 2021.
