About 100 residents were evacuated, and 10 people were conveyed to the hospital after a fire broke out in a HDB apartment at Yishun on Tuesday morning (29 Jun).

In a Facebook post earlier today, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that it was alerted to the blaze at Block 141 Yishun Ring Road at about 8.30am.

“Upon SCDF’s arrival, thick smoke was emitting from units on the 3rd, 4th and 5th floors. SCDF firefighters wearing breathing apparatus sets proceeded into the units to conduct firefighting operations,” it wrote.

The fire, which involved a master bedroom of a unit on the third, fourth, and fifth floors, was extinguished with three water jets.

According to the SCDF, the fire was confined within the master bedrooms, with smoke damage sustained throughout the three units.

“At the height of the firefighting operation, an additional water jet was used from the exterior of the block to suppress the fire which was leaping out from the bedroom windows,” it added.

About 100 residents from levels 2 to 10 of the affected block self-evacuated prior to the SCDF arrival.

A total of 10 people, including a police officer, were conveyed to Singapore General Hospital for smoke inhalation.

Five off-duty SCDF personnel, who were in the vicinity at the time of the blaze, rendered assistance with medical and firefighting operations.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
