Workers Party shares encouraging messages to the public as COVID-19 community cases continue to rise
As Singapore continues to report more COVID-19 cases, with many among the community, members of the the Workers’ Party (WP) have come forward to share a message on “the values and ideals” that Singaporeans need to keep in mind during this pandemic.
In a video posted on its Facebook page on Tuesday (25 May), MP for Sengkang GRC Jamus Lim started off by saying that some countries in the world are “fiercely battling with the effects of COVID-19” while others are slowly reopening its economies cautiously.
On the local front, Singapore has recently moved to Phase 2 Heightened Alert following a spike in community cases, Mr Lim said.
As such, MP for Hougang SMC Dennis Tan noted that it is important now for the Government, businesses and individuals to come together to “address any deficiencies”.
“We must work together to combat this difficult enemy. We have no room for complacency,” he said.
However, doing so will not be easy and there may be challenges to overcome, said He Ting Ru, MP for Sengkang GRC.
She added that it is important for everyone in the country to be kind to one another during this tough times, emphasising not to allow stress and anger caused by the pandemic to “lead us down the path of hate”.
Another member of the party, Kenneth Foo, expressed that now is also the time to show empathy to individuals who are affected by the disease, those struggling economically as well as underappreciated frontline workers.
Additionally, WP also urged the public to focus on those affected by personal conflict like domestic abuse since the onset of the pandemic.
“Whilst this pandemic has been tough for everyone, women in particular have been affected. Though the working at home has its many advantages, women have had to take multiple roles,” said MP for Sengkang GRC Raeesah Khan.
“From coaching the children in Home Based Learning, to cooking, managing housework, and juggling work commitments all at the same time. So, be especially considerate to your wives, mothers and sisters. They need all the support and help that they can get at this period,” added member of the party, Nicole Seah.
Concluding the party’s points, MP for Sengkang Louis Chua expressed that it is important for everyone to remain focus during this pandemic and build back a better Singapore.
