Workers’ Party (WP) politician and former Non-Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Yee Jenn Jong is set to release a memoir chronicling his life as a politician in an alternative party in Singapore.

The book, titled Journey in Blue: A Peek into the Workers’ Party of Singapore, is slated to be available in bookshops “from mid to 3rd week of December”, said Mr Yee in a Facebook post on Friday (27 November).

“Sent the last lot of edits to the publisher and it is planned for printing next week,” he wrote.

Journey in Blue aims to “let readers better understand the nature of the work by opposition politicians in Singapore, which has been dominated by the PAP’s narrative since 1959”, according to the synopsis.

In the book, Mr Yee also “shares his thoughts on the shape of Singapore’s politics going forward”.

Touching on the origins of the book, Mr Yee said that it began “as a casual conversation with a friend in the publishing business” around two weeks after the general election this year.

Mr Yee contested in the Marine Parade group representation constituency in this year’s general election.

Observing his friend’s “keen interest” in the stories he had to tell about his general election campaigns, Mr Yee said that he told his friend that he should compile his experiences in a book.

“He linked me with World Scientific. I wrote the outline and some sample chapters within a week and it was accepted. I then spent 3 weeks intensely writing all 10 chapters.

“Thereafter, it took much longer than I had thought to have facts checked, to get comments from others and to do edits after edits based on inputs from people,” said Mr Yee, thanking those who had gone through the drafts and given him valuable input.

The book will be 316 pages, which is “longer than I had planned for”, he said.

Mr Yee said that he has some copies which he could sell before the book launch and are “to be delivered when the books are given to me, around mid-Dec onwards”.

“I will arrange for free delivery (Singapore only) and autograph the copy if you wish,” he added.

Those interested may place their pre-launch orders here.
