In the face of an increasing number of positive COVID-19 cases in the country, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has launched the SG Healthcare Corps to augment its manpower resources in the fight against the virus.
The Healthcare Corps website notes, “We welcome former and currently practising healthcare professionals interested in returning to serve in public healthcare and community care, as well as non-healthcare professionals committed to training in supporting roles.”
The Corps, which was launched on 7 April, has attracted about 3,000 healthcare professionals to date, said the MOH in a Facebook post yesterday (28 April). However, the MOH is now expanding its call for more healthcare professionals and members of the public to lend a hand.
The Ministry wrote, “We hope to have more healthcare professionals on board, including allied health professionals such as audiologists, dietitians and physiotherapists, medics and individuals with laboratory experience.”
Those without healthcare experience are also invited to take on supporting roles in the Corps under healthcare operations and community care.
On the Corps website, it is noted that every applicant shortlisted for deployment will be provided training. After that, they will be matched to work or volunteer opportunities in operations support or in community care. For interested healthcare professionals, they can sign up based on their profession.
However, the site does not specify whether these are paid positions.
The Corps is currently coordinated by the MOH with support from its partner agencies and institutions from public healthcare, primary, and community care sectors.
Singapore has confirmed 14,951 cases of COVID-19 in the country and 14 deaths to date. A majority of these cases – 12,694 – are migrant workers living in dormitories.
According to the latest data from MOH, 12,120 confirmed cases are currently in isolation in various community facilities while 1,668 are in general wards in hospitals and another 21 are in intensive care.
