An SMRT staff working at the Bishan Depot died on Monday (23 March) after sustaining injuries on the job.

Mr Neo Kian Hong, Group CEO of SMRT said that the staff member, Technical Officer Muhammad Afiq bin Senawi was operating a hydraulic press machine while working in a Rolling Stock workshop when the accident happened around 9.20am.

First-aid was immediately rendered before the officer was taken to the hospital. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away in the hospital around 11.20am.

“We have conveyed our deepest condolences to his family and are rendering support and assistance at this very difficult time,” Mr Neo said.

SMRT noted that it is assisting the Land Transport Authority, the Ministry of Manpower and the Singapore Police Force with investigations into the accident.

In the meantime, SMRT has called for a safety-time out and has suspended all similar maintenance works as investigations are ongoing.
