《今日报》报导”被消失“ 五受访学者表态站稳立场 挺记者准确报导

早前,《今日报》一则有关新加坡国立大学(NUS)和南洋理工大学(NTU)离职学者,对大学政策发表看法的报导,惊传遭到“司法挑战”,在本月10日被撤下。

有关报导刊登于本月6日,题为《不透明政策、僵化于绩效和排名:为何人文学者离开国大和南洋理大》( “Opaque policies, fixation with KPIs, rankings: Why arts and humanities academics quit NUS, NTU“)。

约10名近期离开国大和南洋理大的教授,接受《今日报》采访阐述观点,提及两所大学虽然短期内能吸引有才能的讲师,但是过于追求排名和在特定研究上缺乏学术自由,使得人才很难留住。

不过,有五名受访学者在本月19日联合表态,重申他们在有关文章中所表达的言论,同时声援撰文记者Kelly Ng,在文章中准确报导了他们的观点。

John DiMoia、Axel Gelfert、Linda Lim、Andrew Quitmeyer和Woo Jun Jie在联合声明中重申,仍坚定站稳他们在有关文章中所准确报导的立场和评论。

他们指出,他们得知有关文章”被消失“的理由,乃是遭到大学方面“身份未明”者的司法挑战。

早前,《今日报》针对媒体询问时,表示有关文章是因为遭到司法挑战而被撤下,而该报的律师正在研究对应方针。

学者们在声明中写道:

作为在新加坡以外等多国具有集体经验的学者群体,我们相信言论自由以及积极的公共辩论,乃是促成卓越学术和鞭策人类知识进步的根本。

学者们也表示,从未听闻有任何媒体负责任地报导对院方的意见后,会遭遇到大学以司法挑战报复。

学者们指出,他们关心新加坡的学术发展,对于发生这种对于异议欠缺容忍的态度感到遗憾。

至于国立大学发言人在回应《海峡时报》询问时,则指出该大学仍坚持学术自由和开放式研究的原则,以确保研究和学术之进步。

“故此,大学方面也希望任何主流媒体,在报导有关我们的文章,也应力求公正、符合事实,让群众能作出公平客观的结论。”

报导中引用了受访学者的观点,指出本地学府加诸在讲师们身上的所谓“绩效”(KPI)朝令夕改,导致讲师的升迁和任期政策显得草率随意。

虽然有关报导已被撤下,不过在其他网络论坛如HardwareZone仍可阅读有关完整文章。

去年12月底,国大传媒与新媒体系多名教授相继离职,据《今日报》报导,多达八名教授在短短几个月相继离开,有些学生因此更换主修科目。有的则忙着另寻适合的论文指导老师。找不到的学生只好更换论文题目。
