Hong Kong action star Donnie Yen had apparently landed a role in Episode VIII of the Star Wars series of film.

Various media have reported on the role as confirmed, although other sources have disputed it as rumour.

Chinese and Malaysia media have picked up that Yen would be cast as a Jedi alongside Han Solo, to be played again by Star Wars old hand Harrison Ford.

If so, Yen is expected to fly to London next month for filming. He was supposedly roped in to boost the Chinese box office.

Yen was picked not because of his incredible Force powers, but apparently because of his low asking fee of US$4m. Other bidders supposedly included Jet Li, Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Wang Leehom, Chang Chen, Daniel Wu and Stephen Chow.

It was also reported that Yen and Li were the final two to be considered because of their martial arts background.

Episode VIII, directed by Rian Johnson, is expected to take four months to film. It is scheduled to hit the big screen in May 2017.
