The occasion of the launch will be used to discuss recent race based concerns in Singapore. Dr Gomez will summarize the concerns arising from the discussion and send it as a memorandum to the UN Special Rapporteur on Racism, Mr Githu Muigai.
Based on the last communications with the UN’s Human Rights Office, Mr. Muigai’s report on Singapore is expected to be “made available a few weeks before the 16th session of the Human Rights Council (March 2011).”
Meanwhile, an advance copy of Politics and Ethnicity: Framing Racial Discrimination in Singapore has been forwarded to the Special Rapporteur’s office.
Dr. Gomez has also written to Mr Muigai requesting for an update on the status of his report on Singapore.
