MALAYSIA — How to demonstrate your wealth without explicitly stating it? A young female entrepreneur in Malaysia has an answer to that.

The self-proclaimed 28-year-old entrepreneur proudly shared how she gifted her domestic workers RM10,000 (approx. US$2,270) as “duit raya” and took them on a staycation to a private island, chartering a helicopter.

The entrepreneur, Farahwen, recently posted a video on TikTok that shows the joy and surprise of her three domestic workers when they received a stack of banknotes.

Farahwen explained that the money was a gift worth RM10,000 for their families. She then referred to her maids as her family, saying, “Sharing the blessing of RM 30,000 for the housemaids’ duit raya – they are my maids or, in fact, my family.”

In the video, Farahwen shows her maids seated in a helicopter, en route to an island for a three-day, two-night vacation before Eid al-Fitr.

The video then takes viewers on a tour of a luxurious and spacious private suite that she booked for her maids.

Flexing her luxurious lifestyle

After reviewing Farah’s other videos on TikTok, it is evident that she is not hesitant to flaunt her luxurious lifestyle.

For example, she boasted about going to her office at The Exchange 106 to approve a $100 million USD business proposal, spending RM1.3 million on international school fees for her son, and spending RM20,000 on new clothes for Raya without a second thought.

Admired how Farah takes care of her maids, some netizens had jokingly commented on her post: “Still need maid?”

Other reply, “It’s ok if not a maid (position), merely a worker to open and close gate would be sufficient.”

“Thank God. It’s not just about receiving a 10 thousand dollar blessing, but also having a good employer, which is also a blessing. May this continue to bring abundance in my blessings.”

“If like this become a housemaid would be better than selling chicken rice.”

However the other netizen acknowledged that the maid’s job in the wealthy family house could be challanging: “But make sure your house is always clean and tidy, even a speck of dust is not allowed.”

“Daughter of Tan Sri Syed Azman?”

Some comments have speculated that the entrepreneur might be the daughter of Tan Sri Syed Azman Syed Ibrahim, the chairman and founder of Weststar Aviation Services Sdn Bhd, a company that provides offshore helicopter transport services.

“I heard she’s the daughter of Tan Sri Syed Azman, the president of a company. What’s her name?”

“If I’m not mistaken, it’s the owner of Weststar helicopters, Tan Sri Syed Azman.”

“His father was also once poor. If you want to become wealthy, you have to work hard and pray a lot.”

Tan Sri Syed Azman is also known as a “low profile” billionaire who owns four jets and 14 helicopters.

In 2018, his net worth was $700 million.

BERSIH calls for an end to political appointments and patronage in Malaysian GLCs

The Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (BERSIH) has expressed concerns over the political appointments made by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in government-linked companies. The appointment of Wong Chen, a Member of Parliament from Anwar’s party, as the Non-Executive Chairman of Malaysia Debts Ventures Berhad (MDV) has drawn scrutiny. BERSIH calls for transparency in such appointments and suggests excluding elected representatives from GLC positions. While acknowledging Wong’s qualifications, the organization questions the necessity of his appointment and emphasizes the need for qualified individuals to be appointed to key positions in GLCs and statutory boards.
