DPM Heng: Gov’t to introduce one-off additional support for newborns

Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat announced in Parliament today (5 October) that the Government will introduce one-off additional support for newborns. This was the case as the Government received feedback that COVID-19 had resulted in citizens postponing parenthood plans.

He expressed that the postponing of parenthood plans amid the pandemic was “fully understandable” as there are uncertainties about the people’s income, as reported by CNA.

“This is fully understandable, especially when they face uncertainty with their income.”

It was revealed that this support will be on top of the Baby Bonus Cash Gift worth up to S$10,000, and more details will be announced by Indranee Rajah, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office.

Mr Heng further mentioned that in October, eligible households will receive the GST voucher rebate, the first tranche of grocery vouchers, as well as rebates for service and conservancy charges. He promised that households will continue to be taken care of alongside support for businesses and workers.
