Leong Sze Hian is a Wharton Fellow and an alumnus of Harvard University and the inaugural United Nations University International Leadership Academy. He has served as Honorary Consul of Jamaica, Representative of the Inter-American Economic Council, President of the Society of Financial Service Professionals. He has been invited to speak more than 100 times in about 20 countries on 5 continents, authored 3 books and quoted over 1000 times in the media over the last 8 years.

Braema Mathi is a former Nominated Member of Parliament; a former President of AWARE and current Vice-President of AFA. She led Transient Workers Count Too and its precursor, Braema Mathi The Working Committee 2 from 2002-2007. She has worked as a teacher, a journalist and in senior management and in research.

在上个周六(3日),可能有些人正和家人享受周末悠闲时光,但是对全职国民服役军人刘凯的家人来说,却是痛心伤感的一天。刘凯在参与军训时,驾驶的路虎被倒退的Bionix步兵战车撞上,事发后刘凯失去意识,经抢救惟最终在10点35分宣告死亡。 22岁,正值青春年华,他和所有本土青年一样,履行公民义务参与国民服役。但最后却等不到和家人团聚。死者二姐悲恸表示,母亲4月被诊断患癌,祖母5月逝世,如今弟弟不幸英年早逝,让他们一家在一年内遭遇三重打击。 国防部指出,警方已在调查这起事故,一支独立调查委员会(COI)也会调查事故导因,为确保适当的安全措施都到位,陆军已暂停所有训练。 这是过去14个月来,第三起涉及国民服役军训的死亡案例。 近一年第三起国民服役死亡事故 国防部长黄永宏在今年五月,曾在国会发表声明,指在过去20年里,平均每年发生一起国民服役军训死亡事故,不过在2013至2016年期间,没有发生任何类似死亡事故。 我们刚在今年4月,失去了李函轩一等中士;今年五月,22岁的郭俨进也离我们而去;再到前日,又传出另一大好青年因意外而逝世。 黄永宏部长曾指出,尽量让军训做到“零死亡事故”,武装部队必须不断加强安全措施,但他坦言军训比一般活动来得危险,要确保每次军训都万无一失并不容易。 一名读者Simon Lim,致函《网络公民》,指出国民服役对国家至关重要,但是,他作为一名家长、以及一名前全职国民服役军人,对又一名服役青年离世感到悲痛。 “政府应清楚自身肩负重任” 他直言,家长看着孩子走进军营,人民行动党应该理解,他们有神圣的责任,监督和确保这些好男儿接受扎实、安全的训练,最重要的是,让他们活着回到父母身边。…
