Singapore and the World: Looking Back and Looking Ahead

Reverend Yap Kim Hao shared a brilliantly written address which was delivered by Dr Linda Lim Yuen-Ching at her alma mater (1957-1966), Methodist Girls School's Strategic Planning Retreat for senior education administrators and teachers, as he found it to be of historical value as Dr Lim reflected in looking back in her career and looking ahead to a challenging future. Noting that with her distinguished credentials, Dr Lim's deserves a wider audience for her address. Below is the speech by Dr Lim, entitled - "Singapore and the World: Looking Back and Looking Ahead", delivered at MGS Strategic Planning Retreat, 1 June 2017
It is a great pleasure and honor for me to speak to you today, 130 years after my great-grandmother Siauw Mah Li was, according to Miss Sophia Blackmore, “brought to me by her father in 1887” from Medan, Sumatra, to become the first Chinese girl to study in our School. Mah Li later taught in both MGS Singapore and Ipoh, before and after marrying my great-grandfather Kung Tian Siong, an ACS boy who himself late in life became a lay preacher at Geylang Methodist Church.
