Lim Tean calls on Transport Minister to disclose number of successful PR and foreign bidders in latest COE exercise

Lim Tean, the political party Peoples Voice leader and a practising lawyer in Singapore, expressed his shock at the recent prices for the Category E, open-category COEs. He questioned whether Transport Minister S Iswaran would disclose the number of Permanent Residents (PRs) and foreigners who bid and were successful in the last exercise. When commenting on Lim Tean’s Facebook post, some of the netizens echoed with Mr Lim’s call, suggesting that the COE bidding should be categorised by Singaporean and non-Singaporeans, and the bidding price for the latter should be on top of the locals.

Lim Tean: Absurd for the Prosecution to have only asked for a S$5000 fine for Karl Liew

Mr Lim Tean, in his opinion piece, highlights the severity of Karl Liew’s perjury in the Parti Liyani trial. He notes that if it were not for her lawyer’s courage and Justice Chan Seng Onn’s good sense, Parti Liyani could have served a lengthy prison sentence. He also highlights the financial losses and mental anguish that Parti Liyani and her family have suffered due to her trials and tribulations. He criticizes the lenient prosecution of Karl Liew, who was fined $5,000 for his perjury, and questions why his charge was reduced from the more serious Section 193 charge to the less serious Section 182 charge. Mr Lim argues that the 14-day prison sentence handed down by District Judge Eugene Teo is still not commensurate with the seriousness of the offence, citing the examples of Jeffrey Archer and Jonathan Aitken, who were both sentenced to imprisonment for perjury.

Lim Tean: Making it easy for the rich does not make the rest of us richer!

In a Facebook post, Peoples Voice chief Lim Tean questioned Singapore’s government’s reliance on “trickle-down” economics, despite evidence to the contrary. Mr Lim notes that the lives of Singaporeans have not improved but regressed this century. He also calls attention to the issue of the super-rich from China driving up prices in Singapore and investing little in the country. He asserts that for the rich, it is socialism, but for the rest of the population, it is brutal capitalism. Mr Lim encourages his readers to question for whom the “shining city on the hill” was built and notes that many Singaporeans are struggling to make ends meet in the most expensive city in the world.

Lim Tean: You Can’t Be Serious!

Opposition leader and lawyer, Lim Tean ridicules the idea promoted by some media outlets that differing receptions for Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim and Singapore PM Lee Hsien Loong was due to Anwar arriving on a Malaysian Airlines plane, whereas Lee arrived on Hainan Airlines. Mr Lim pointed that reception rules for visiting statesmen are not set in stone, and if a country genuinely likes a guest, it can give them an extravagant reception.
