Torrential rain causes flash flood warnings across Singapore on Polling Day morning
Flash flood warnings were issued across three locations in Singapore on the wet morning of Polling Day, 3 May, as heavy thundery showers swept across the island.
Torrential rain on the morning of 3 May, led to flash flood warnings in Singapore as voters set out to cast their ballots on Polling Day.
At 8.12 am, the national water agency PUB issued flash flood risk alerts for three locations affected by heavy downpours.
The areas identified were Upper Paya Lebar Service Road, between Lim Teck Boo Road and Rochdale Road; Jalan Lokam near Upper Paya Lebar Road; and Thrift Drive near Jalan Usaha.
PUB advised members of the public to avoid these areas “for the next one hour” due to the risk of flash floods arising from the intense rainfall.
The alert followed an earlier post by PUB at 6.42am via social media platform X, cautioning that heavy rain was expected across many parts of Singapore between 7.15 am and 8.45 am.

This forecast was echoed by the National Environment Agency (NEA), which at 6.33 am issued a similar warning on its website.
The NEA stated that “moderate to heavy thundery showers with gusty wind” would affect large areas of Singapore during the morning period.
The combination of both agencies’ warnings highlighted a potentially disruptive start to the nation’s Polling Day, especially for early voters.
