UOB Letter of Demand and TOC’s Response
United Overseas Bank Limited (UOB) issued a Letter of Demand for an article published on 27 March 2025.
On 28 March 2025, Shook Lin & Bok LLP, acting on behalf of United Overseas Bank Limited (UOB), issued a Letter of Demand addressed to TOC Pte Ltd — a company that has ceased to operate The Online Citizen since 2022, following a transfer of ownership and operations .
The Online Citizen is currently operated by Miao Yi Infotech Ltd, a company incorporated in Taiwan. Despite this, UOB directed its legal threat to the wrong entity and to Terry Xu personally, without acknowledging the current operating structure or jurisdiction.
We publish both UOB’s legal letter to Xu and our response in full below, in the interest of transparency and public accountability. (We have omitted the version addressed to TOC Pte Ltd, as it is a duplicate of the same letter and was sent to an entity that no longer operates TOC.)
