As a teenager, she was part of the Trim and Fit (TAF) programme, which aimed to tackle obesity in Singapore schools between 1992 and 2007.
Over time, she developed a passion for running and trained under coach Steven Quek at the then-Raffles Junior College (RJC), according to Singapore Athletics.
