SINGAPORE: An 85-year-old doctor, Kho Kwang Po, was charged on Wednesday, 26 February 2025, for making an online post containing offensive remarks against Muslims.

He faces one charge of deliberately intending to wound the religious feelings of Muslims through a Facebook post dated 21 April 2021.

According to the charge sheet, Kho, a Singaporean, created and uploaded a post that included anti-Islam statements.

The comments allegedly linked Muslims to violence and crime while also suggesting that religious leaders were dishonest.

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) stated in a press release on Tuesday that reports were lodged regarding Kho’s Facebook posts on 29 and 30 June 2021.

Investigations revealed that on 21 April 2021, Kho had re-posted screenshots of his previous Facebook posts from five years earlier, which contained the offensive remarks.

Police added that Kho left Singapore in January 2022 while investigations were ongoing and only returned in October 2024.

According to state media CNA, during his court appearance, Kho was unrepresented by legal counsel.

When asked by the judge about his intentions, he responded, “I think I will plead guilty.”

The judge then inquired if he wished to engage a lawyer for mitigation, but Kho declined.

The case has been adjourned to 9 April for a plead guilty mention.

Kho had previously attracted public attention for co-authoring a letter that called for an end to Singapore’s COVID-19 vaccination programme.

Under Singapore law, individuals found guilty of deliberately intending to wound the religious or racial feelings of a person may face up to three years in jail, a fine, or both.
