World leaders, including those from the G7 and Asia, congratulated Donald Trump on his second-term inauguration as US President, highlighting strong global partnerships, shared aspirations, and confidence in continued collaboration to address global challenges and strengthen international security.

World leaders extended their congratulations to Donald Trump, who was inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States on 20 January 2025.

Trump returned to the White House on Monday after taking the oath of office for a second term in a ceremony held inside the U.S. Capitol rotunda due to freezing temperatures.

This marked the first indoor inauguration since President Ronald Reagan’s second term.

During the ceremony, J.D. Vance, Trump’s running mate, was sworn in as vice president.

Former President Joe Biden officially transferred power at noon and departed Washington via helicopter shortly after the event.

In his inaugural address, Trump hailed his re-election as a “historic comeback” and outlined plans to address key issues, including immigration, energy, and economic policies.

“The Golden Age of America begins right now,” he declared, pledging to prioritise national interests and restore America’s global standing.

Global Leaders Congratulate Trump on Second Term as U.S. President

World leaders, including G7 heads of state, extended their congratulations to Donald Trump as he was inaugurated for a second term as the 47th President of the United States.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau released a statement congratulating Trump and reaffirming the strong economic ties between the two countries.

“On behalf of the Government of Canada, I extend my congratulations to Donald J. Trump on his inauguration as President of the United States of America for a second term,” Trudeau said.

He highlighted the vital trade relationship between Canada and the U.S., noting their status as each other’s largest trading partners.

“We are strongest when we work together, and I look forward to working with President Trump… to deliver prosperity for our peoples while protecting and defending the interests of Canadians,” he added.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also extended his well wishes in a video message shared on X (formerly Twitter).

“On behalf of the United Kingdom, I send my warmest congratulations to President Donald Trump on his inauguration as the forty-seventh President of the United States,” Starmer said.

He expressed optimism about the enduring “special relationship” between the U.K. and the U.S., adding, “It will continue to flourish for years to come.”

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz described the U.S. as Germany’s closest ally, stating that fostering a strong transatlantic relationship remains a cornerstone of their policy.

“The EU, with 27 members and more than 400 million people, is a strong union,” Scholz wrote on X.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni conveyed her best wishes, emphasising the enduring friendship between Italy and the U.S.

“I am certain that the values that unite us will continue to strengthen the collaboration between Italy and the USA as we face global challenges together,” Meloni said.

Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba congratulated Trump and expressed hopes for reinforcing the Japan-U.S. partnership.

In his message shared on X, Ishiba highlighted their shared commitment to a “free and open Indo-Pacific.”

Outside the G7, other leaders also offered their congratulations.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy praised Trump’s decisive leadership and expressed hope for resolving global challenges under his administration.

“We must all work together to ensure that this century is great and successful for democracies,” Zelenskyy said.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu celebrated the renewed U.S.-Israeli partnership, expressing confidence in elevating the alliance to “even greater heights.”

Australian Prime Minister Antony Albanese echoed similar sentiments, calling the U.S. “a great friend of Australia” and highlighting the strength of their alliance.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte noted Trump’s return to the presidency as a potential catalyst for increased defense collaboration.

“We will turbo-charge defense spending and production,” Rutte stated, referencing Trump’s consistent push for European nations to assume greater responsibility within the alliance.

Asian Leaders Congratulate Trump, Emphasising Strong Partnerships with the U.S.

Asian leaders offered their congratulations to Donald Trump on his inauguration, highlighting strong partnerships and shared aspirations.

Singapore’s President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong both offered warm congratulations and reflected on the long-standing ties between Singapore and the U.S.

In his letter, President Tharman noted that the U.S. has been a source of dynamism, resilience, and innovation.

“Your leadership will be crucial in addressing both the challenges and opportunities facing the U.S. and the world today,” he wrote.

He emphasised the countries’ “abiding and substantive friendship” and the years of mutual respect and cooperation that have characterised their relationship.

President Tharman also pointed out the “significant achievements” during Trump’s previous term, particularly in economic and defence cooperation.

He expressed confidence that under Trump’s leadership, the nations would continue to make strides toward mutual prosperity and security.

In his letter, PM Wong highlighted the U.S.’s indispensable role in safeguarding global stability and fostering international security.

He expressed confidence that under Trump’s second term, the U.S. would continue to play a central role in shaping global affairs.

PM Wong further affirmed Singapore’s commitment to remaining a “trusted friend and partner,” working together to advance shared global interests and ensure regional peace and prosperity.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Trump’s inauguration “historic” and expressed eagerness to deepen the India-U.S. partnership.

“I look forward to working closely together once again to benefit both our countries,” Modi stated on X (formerly Twitter).

Philippine President Bongbong Marcos celebrated the peaceful transfer of power and reaffirmed the PH-U.S. alliance, describing it as a cornerstone for regional prosperity and security.

“Our strong and lasting alliance will uphold our shared vision,” Marcos said.
