Shining a light on FIV+ cats: The inspiring story of Sawyer T. Rabbit
Discover how local rescuers transformed the life of a senior FIV+ cat in Saving Sawyer T. Rabbit, proving every cat deserves a second chance. Screening on 18 Jan at The Projector.

On 18 January 2025, Saving Sawyer T. Rabbit, a heartwarming and eye-opening documentary about Singapore’s independent animal rescuers and their work with community cats, will screen at The Projector.
The film, which has won 25 international awards, takes audiences into the little-known world of rescuers who dedicate their time and resources to saving community cats from abuse, neglect, and misunderstandings about feline conditions like FIV.
Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) is the feline equivalent of HIV in humans. While it affects a cat’s immune system, FIV+ cats can lead long, healthy lives with proper care and attention, challenging the misconceptions that often lead to unnecessary euthanasia.
The documentary shines a spotlight on the real-life journey of Sawyer T. Rabbit, a senior FIV+ cat who was on the brink of being euthanized by a rescue group.
His story begins as a “hopeless case” due to his appearance and health but transforms into a testament to resilience and love after a dedicated feeder refused to give up on him. With proper care and compassion, Sawyer recovered and blossomed into a healthy, affectionate cat.
Director Chan Chow Wah uses Sawyer’s story to debunk misconceptions surrounding FIV and to celebrate the tireless efforts of local rescuers and feeders who operate mostly out of sight.
Their commitment has not only saved lives but also raised Singapore’s compassion index—a powerful reminder of the difference individuals can make in their communities.
“We want to show that every cat deserves a chance at life,” the filmmaker shared. “Through Sawyer’s story, we hope to change perspectives about FIV+ cats and bring attention to the unseen world of community cat rescuers in Singapore.”
The screenings will take place at 2:00 PM and 3:30 PM at The Projector. Admission is “pay as you wish,” with all proceeds going directly to FIV rescue efforts. Attendees can register for tickets at https://ahasg.com/docu_rabbit.html.
This one-of-a-kind film serves not only as a tribute to Singapore’s independent animal rescuers but also as an educational tool to promote greater awareness and compassion for community cats.
Don’t miss the chance to experience this uplifting story and contribute to a meaningful cause.
