SINGAPORE: In an updated X post at 10.36am on 19 December, SMRT announced that train services on the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) between Bayshore and Woodlands North had resumed.

According to a Facebook post by SMRT, a signalling system fault occurred on the TEL at around 9.10am.

“For the safety of our commuters, trains operated at reduced speeds, resulting in an additional 10 minutes of travel time,” SMRT explained.

Despite the delay, train services continued in both directions between Woodlands North and Bayshore stations.

SMRT also stated that its engineers had resolved the signalling system fault and that trains were now running at normal speeds.

To keep commuters informed, in-train and station announcements were made.

SMRT apologised for the inconvenience caused to commuters during their Thursday morning commute.

This marks the second reported incident on the TEL in recent months.

On the evening of 1 October, a train fault caused slower train movement between Woodlands North and Lentor stations. SMRT announced at 5.52pm that services on the affected line had fully resumed.

The TEL fault occurred shortly after train services between Jurong East and Buona Vista on the East-West Line resumed following a six-day major disruption.
