Masked burglars clash with Malaysian house owner in Muar; police hunt suspects
CCTV footage from 17 December shows two armed burglars breaking into a house in Muar, Johor, in broad daylight, resulting in a confrontation with the homeowner.
The homeowner was able to damage the intruders’ vehicle door, but the burglars managed to flee. Muar police have since located the abandoned vehicle in Jasin, Melaka, and are actively searching for the suspects.
JOHOR, MALAYSIA: Videos of two armed burglars breaking into a house in Muar, Johor, in broad daylight and engaging in a fight with the homeowner have gone viral after being posted on social media.
According to Malaysian media reports, police are actively searching for the suspects involved in the armed robbery.
CCTV footage, timestamped 17 December, shows a masked man carrying a machete, crouching near a low wall as the gate opens.
A white Perodua Myvi reverses into the driveway. The burglars, both dressed in black, swiftly enter the house, one wielding a long object.
The footage later shows the parked car with all its doors open, and the gate opens again to reveal a dark-coloured car outside.
Homeowner Confronts Intruders, Breaks Car Door Skirmish
A man in a T-shirt and shorts runs through the gate towards the white car but is chased away by one of the intruders, who is holding a long object aloft.
Identified by local media as the house owner, the man moves to the other side of the car and repeatedly yanks on a door.
He then confronts both intruders again, breaking the car’s rear window before they drive off.
Another man and a woman come to his aid, both carrying long objects, which they use to strike the car as it speeds away.
In additional footage, one of the burglars enters the living room, seemingly unnoticed by a woman lying on the couch with a baby.
As the woman, with her back to the burglar, turns around, he steps out of the room. She gets up and walks to the living room door, just as the second burglar dashes past her.
A third video clip shows one of the intruders rummaging through drawers in a room before leaving, apparently empty-handed.
Police Recover Robbery Vehicle, Manhunt for Suspects Continues
Muar district deputy police chief Superintendent Muhammad Aidil Roneh Abdullah in a statement issued on Wednesday confirmed authorities were alerted to the incident at a residence in Taman Sri Treh at 6.20pm on 17 December.
The police have since discovered the abandoned vehicle used in the robbery in Jasin, Melaka, and efforts to apprehend the suspects are ongoing.
Muar and Melaka are less than an hour’s drive apart.
Victim Confirms Robbery, Assures Police Investigation Underway
A Facebook user, identified as Seline See, confirmed in a post that she and her family were the victims of the house robbery.
She assured readers that the police are actively investigating the incident.
Expressing gratitude for the concern shown by netizens, Seline shared that her injured family members are in stable condition and are currently resting.
Suspected Connection Between Muar and Melaka Robberies, Claims FB User
Notably, another Facebook user, Lim Kai Sing, shared that her relatives in Melaka experienced a robbery on the same day as the Muar incident. She suspects that both robberies were committed by the same two suspects.
Lim posted two CCTV clips showing the same two intruders, dressed identically and using the same white Perodua Myvi as in the Muar case. According to her post, the intruders broke down the door and then pointed a knife at her aunt, who was inside the car.
“My aunt kept honking the car’s horn, hoping someone would come to her aid, as the thief was unable to break the car window,” Lim explained.
“He (the suspect) immediately fled after that. It happened on the same day, but about an hour earlier,” Lim added, speculating that the suspects likely proceeded to Muar after failing to rob her uncle’s house.
