People’s Power Party to host Policy Forum 2024 on key issues ahead of upcoming GE
Singapore’s People’s Power Party will host “Policy Forum 2024” on 21 Dec to address pressing issues since the 2020 GE, including rising costs, job insecurity, and political controversies.
The forum invites the public to explore innovative solutions and consider how PPP’s policy proposals could offer a more effective way forward.
SINGAPORE: The People’s Power Party (PPP), an alternative political party in Singapore, will host a policy forum on 21 December 2024 to review the nation’s socio-economic and political developments since the 2020 General Election (GE).
Titled “Policy Forum 2024: “Time to Change. Yes We Can!”, the forum aims to address pressing concerns faced by Singaporeans and discuss key issues ahead of the upcoming GE.
PPP has invited members to participate in the forum, with a registration fee of S$20, to be submitted via an online form.
The forum will feature a few speakers, including Dr James Gomez, the Regional Director of the Asia Centre and a Central Executive Committee (CEC) member of the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP).
Another key speaker is Derrick Sim, the Chairman of PPP, described as a seasoned professional with expertise in finance and public service. His areas of focus include housing, retirement adequacy, and promoting good governance.
Foong Swee Fong, a respected non-partisan commentator, has also been invited to join the panel. Known for his sharp analytical skills and eloquence, he excels in breaking down complex policy issues and presenting them in a clear and compelling manner, making him a valuable voice in discussions on current affairs.
A Call for Accountability and Policy Change
In a statement, the People’s Power Party (PPP) highlighted that the post-COVID years have presented significant challenges for many Singaporeans.
Since the 2020 General Election, the nation has faced a range of pressing issues, including widespread retrenchments, business closures, and a rising cost of living. Additionally, COE premiums have reached record highs, healthcare costs have continued to climb, and the growing population has added further strain to these challenges.
PPP also drew attention to controversies within the political landscape. “Scandals have besieged both the ruling and opposition parties, leading to in one case the imprisonment of the former Transport Minister, and in another resulting in political asylum in the United Kingdom for Lee Hsien Yang who cited fear from targeted legal persecution of his family. ”
According to PPP, these incidents have eroded public confidence in governance and underscored the urgent need for greater accountability.
With the next General Election due by November 2025, Singapore faces a host of critical challenges. Rising daily living costs, unaffordable housing, job insecurity, and the impacts of worsening geopolitical tensions, emerging trade wars, and ongoing armed conflicts globally remain at the forefront of public concern.
PPP stated that Policy Forum 2024 will provide a platform to critically examine these developments and their implications for the upcoming General Election.
Fostering Dialogue for a Sustainable and Equitable Future
Invited speakers will share their perspectives and discuss strategies to address these pressing issues. The forum will also encourage participants to explore innovative solutions and consider how PPP’s policy proposals could offer a more effective way forward.
By fostering meaningful dialogue and engagement, PPP aims to help Singaporeans navigate these uncertainties and chart a course toward a more sustainable and equitable future.
