SINGAPORE: A construction worker suffered injuries after falling from a height of approximately 9m at a construction site in Jurong West in the early hours of 4 December.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) reported being alerted to the incident near Block 737 Jurong West Street 75 at about 3.45am.

The worker, who was working on a metal platform as part of Jurong Region Line construction works, was injured in the fall, according to the Land Transport Authority (LTA).

SCDF said the worker was promptly transported to the National University Hospital (NUH) for treatment. His current condition has not been disclosed.

The LTA has halted all work at the site to review and strengthen safety measures.

The authority is collaborating with the main contractor, China Railway 11 Bureau Group Corporation, to assist the injured worker and is supporting the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) in ongoing investigations.

In its annual workplace safety report released earlier this year, MOM highlighted 590 major injuries in 2023, down from 614 in 2022.

Falls from height accounted for eight fatalities and 67 major injuries, underscoring the persistent risks in the construction sector.
