Eight fires have occurred at the North Gaia executive condominium construction site in Yishun over a period of eight days, with the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) preliminarily identifying the cause as arson.

The SCDF confirmed that the fires, which began on 20 November and continued until 27 November 2024, broke out at multiple locations within the site on Yishun Close, primarily involving construction materials and furniture.

Most of the fires were extinguished by construction workers present at the site before firefighters arrived.

In other cases, the SCDF personnel managed to contain the fires swiftly.

One of the fires resulted in two individuals being taken to Singapore General Hospital for smoke inhalation. No further injuries were reported across the eight incidents, according to SCDF statements provided to local media.

The police have confirmed that reports regarding the fires have been lodged and investigations are ongoing.

North Gaia, the affected development, is described on its website as a 616-unit executive condominium spanning 11 blocks, each 14 storeys high. Developed by Sing Holdings, the project is positioned as an upscale residential community with modern amenities.

Authorities have not disclosed specific details about the arsonist or potential motives, and no significant damage to the structural integrity of the buildings has been reported.
