Police shoot man in Pasir Ris Park following suspected weapon threat
A man suspected of wielding a weapon with the intent to harm others was shot in the arm by police at Pasir Ris Park’s Bird Watching Tower early Friday. The incident, occurring around 6 a.m., saw the man hospitalised. Investigations are underway.
SINGAPORE: A man suspected of holding a weapon with the intent to harm others was shot and subdued by police at Pasir Ris Park early Friday morning (8 Nov).
The incident occurred around 6 am at the Bird Watching Tower in the park, according to Lianhe Zaobao.
The man, described as emotionally distressed, was believed to be carrying a weapon and allegedly posed a threat to others at the location.
Police officers arrived promptly and attempted to calm the man, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
As the situation escalated, one officer discharged his firearm, shooting the man in the arm.
He was then subdued and transported to a hospital for medical treatment.
By around 10 am, authorities had established a cordon around the scene.
The walkway leading to the bird-watching tower was closed, and officers were seen inspecting the area, with no civilians visible in the vicinity.
Lianhe Zaobao reported that inquiries have been sent to the Singapore Police Force and Civil Defence Force, with investigations into the incident ongoing.
