An accident involving an over-height vehicle occurred at the Cairnhill Circle entrance of the CTE tunnel towards Seletar Expressway on 8 November. A yellow lorry was involved in the incident, resulting in significant traffic delays. The driver was arrested for illegal operation of a heavy vehicle.
SINGAPORE: An accident involving an over-height vehicle at the Cairnhill Circle entrance of the Central Expressway (CTE) tunnel caused significant traffic disruptions in the town area on Friday (8 November).
The incident occurred around 12pm and involved a yellow lorry that was parked inside the tunnel, with visible damage to the ceiling, including exposed, hanging wires.
The vehicle, registered under A & T Waste Haulage Services, was seen stationary near the tunnel entrance.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) confirmed that while there was no structural damage to the tunnel itself, some electrical and mechanical equipment in the tunnel ceiling had been damaged.
The incident led to the closure of the slip road from CTE towards Seletar Expressway (SLE), causing delays for motorists in the afternoon.
Recovery works are currently underway, and the LTA stated that the damage to the tunnel’s equipment is being addressed.
According to the police, they were alerted to the accident at noon.
No injuries were reported, but the 55-year-old driver of the lorry was arrested for illegally driving a heavy motor vehicle that exceeded the 4.5-metre height limit.
The vehicle was not being escorted by a police officer or auxiliary police officer, as required by law for over-height vehicles.
The police investigation is ongoing.
