Glen Goei to lead compelling discussion on balancing Singapore’s creativity and pragmatism on 4 Nov
Celebrated for his artistic contributions, Glen Goei is set to lead a compelling discussion on the fusion of creativity and practicality.
Dr Chee Soon Juan’s recent announcement of the event at Orange & Teal on November 4 has sparked enthusiasm within the arts circle.

SINGAPORE: Singaporean film and theatre virtuoso, Glen Goei, renowned for his remarkable contributions to the arts, is slated to host a thought-provoking conversation on the intricate balance between creativity and pragmatism.
The event, scheduled for November 4, 2023, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the esteemed venue Orange & Teal at Rochester Mall, promises to be an engaging exploration of the intersection between artistic innovation and practicality.
The announcement, made on Tuesday (24 Oct), by Dr Chee Soon Juan, the owner of Orange & Teal, has generated palpable excitement within the artistic community.
Dr Chee, also the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) secretary-general, emphasized that Glen Goei is the ideal personality to lead this discourse, given his profound expertise and illustrious career in the film industry.
“There is no better person to speak on this matter than Glen Goei. Hear how Goei succeeded in the film industry as he takes us through his illustrious creative career as a producer, director and actor.”
The dialogue aims to address the relationship between Singaporean pragmatism and the often daring and experimental nature of the creative process.
Does this mean that we are averse to the creative process which often necessitates unconventional and untested approaches? Are the two mutually exclusive or can society be both pragmatic and creative at the same time? This intriguing juxtaposition will be at the heart of the discussion.
Goei, the multi-award-winning artistic director of Mu-Lan Arts in London, holds a stellar track record.
Notably, his performance alongside Anthony Hopkins in “M Butterfly” earned him an Olivier Award nomination, solidifying his status as a distinguished actor.
Additionally, his association with Miramax for a prominent picture deal further attests to his global recognition.
Presently serving as the associate artistic director of the esteemed Singaporean company W!LD RICE and a frequent director for the renowned theater group Dream Academy, Goei continues to leave an indelible mark on the international arts landscape.
Enthusiasts eager to be part of this enriching dialogue can secure their seats by making reservations through the official Orange & Teal website: https://orangeandteal.oddle.me/en_SG/reservations.
